Beauty Spot: Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder

Globe and Mail Update

Out of all of the beauty blunders we hate, "mask of foundation face" is tops. Thankfully, Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder by Smashbox Cosmetics is the antithesis to all that we fear.

When tested on fair combination skin, the ever-so-slightly-tinted powder had an airbrushing effect that resulted in a glowing, picture-perfect complexion that stood up to the closest scrutiny.

The "hydrating" part of the name means no streaks or dry patches, and vitamins and antioxidants are promised to fight signs of aging and make pores disappear.

It goes on best with a big, fluffy brush (no dinky bristles here, a large one is included) and the neat locking mechanism under the lid means no powder spills out in your purse.

Our only quibble is that the powder only comes in four shades (fair, light, medium or dark), but if you find your perfect match, it's worth the extra money.

About $70 for 0.75 ounces at www.smashbox.com.
