It's really more the other way around. Most people who follow football hate Man United, it's the only thing that unites the fans of all other big and small clubs. Anyway, credit due, etc. blah blah blah ... the article should more appropriately be titled Man U wins 17th League Title.
They are now 1 behind Liverpool and that's not me gloating, that's me asking we haven't won the league in 18 years, what took you so long to catch up?- Posted 11/05/08 at 2:11 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

B I from Toronto, Canada writes: 'United had further reason to thank the referee soon after when he opted not to show Paul Scholes a second yellow card for a body check that could easily have ended his involvement.'
The referee, Steve Bennett, then went on to lick Sir Alex Ferguson's testicles and thanked the Scotsman for allowing him that pleasure. Later he wiped a tear off his pasty face and felt proud that he could have several key roles to play this season in helping to crown Scum as champions.- Posted 11/05/08 at 2:17 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Two Sense from Saskatoon, Canada writes: If you were to go virtually anywhere on this Earth and ask a young soccer player if they know who or what Manchester United is, millions of those young soccer players would say, 'yes.' My concern is not with those who 'follow' the game, my hope is for the millions who will be inspired to 'play' the game. They are the future of this sport. One of the most important skills a soccer player can have is 'vision.' It is time for some people who 'follow' the game to open their eyes and see what is really important. Off you go!

Yes, unfortunately however most of those kids can't get Steve Bennett to referee their matches. What a pompous thing to write: 'my concern...my hope...' Who gives a rat's behind what your concerns and hopes are? Who are you, Barack Obama?- Posted 11/05/08 at 2:59 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Jesper Haaps from Hatzic, Canada writes: Does BI stand for 'Bitter Ignorance'? It's true, though -- such bitterness from the ABUs of this world just makes days like this all the more sweet. And any team that finishes ahead after 38 gruelling matches deserves to be there. United played the best football, won the most matches, scored by far the most goals, while letting in the fewest.
Well done to Arsenal for their open, flowing style, and even fair play to Chelsea for a stubborn will to win that almost matched United's. Even Liverpool have made improvements. A riveting season that, depending on what happens in Moscow, could end up feeling as gloriously sweet as 1999.- Posted 11/05/08 at 3:24 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

They are the Montreal Canadiens of soccer, they are the NY Yankees, they are the Dallas Cowboys. Notice I never said they are the Toronto Maple Leafs lol, Man United are winners afterall with a good track record. We'll see what they can do in Mother Russia next week.

John
I am in Scotland and watched all the games today. John Terry was interviewed after the game. He has a dislocated shoulder, but they popped it back into place and he will be able to play in Russia so he said. He didnt looked like he was in pain, so I wish him the best. They do have a good chance if he is healthy.- Posted 11/05/08 at 4:12 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

bj sutherland from Victoria, Canada writes: One commentator said Terry had a dislocated elbow. Is that better or worse than a dislocated shoulder? I was surprised at the uneven refereeing. There could have been a few more penalty shots and foul plays deserving yellow cards. Still, congratulations Man U.

I can tell you that every soccer fan on the Earth knows and admires Man-U for 40 years at least...
There are far more people who hate Chelsea much more and can't stand anything Chelsea does, then Man-U...
I liked the way Man-U played today, the passes on the ground, movement, runs, taking away players, the whole thing was a celebration of how football{beautiful game} should be played...It was well refed, relatively clean, great to watch....

JOHN PALANDRA from Toronto, Canada writes: In BI's defense he is actually a Liverpool supporter and im not sure why everyone is getting offended with what he said. All he said was that Man U was one of those teams you either love or hate, similar to Inter, Real Madrid, Dallas Cowboys or the Toronto Maple Leafs. I myself would have rather see almost anyone else win. That doesnt mean i dont respect the club, or the world class players and manager they have, all it means is that i get tired of always seeing them win and i'd rather see someone else on top.

The Special One... I Am Fantastic from Canada writes: BI biggest mistake was saying those who follow soccer hate Manchester United. Not entirely true. Many who hate United do so for one of many reasons:
1 - Jealousy of the team because their club isn't as good
2 - Part of the great rivalry (Liverpool and lately Arsenal and Chelsea)
Past that the only other reason is that they hate anything successful. I've been following for 30 years and have been a United fan that whole time as was my father from the 50's on.
Congrats to Giggs on tying Sir Charlton and scoring. And as much as those who want to rip on Bennett lets also remember he called off a very valid penalty against Wigan as well.- Posted 11/05/08 at 9:26 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

But I did ackknowledge their talent.
Man U does not always win. They didn't win the Premier a couple times in the last little while, and they haven't gotten to the CL finals since '99.
So, let us Man U guys relish the moment.

And as for the Manc fans..Congrats & Enjoy - but only if you're a real fan. I don't count people who buy jersey's that are on sale at footlocker as real fans.

NotASpoiledAthelete - from Canada writes: Random - in no way would ManU beat Argentina (or Brasil)...they are a good domestic league club but let's not get carried away.
And you might be eating those "beat any soccer team on the planet" talk by May 21st...and don't forget CFC beat them less than a month ago, and only lost the title to ManU by 2 pts.
As for the cost of the jersey - it wasn't cheap by any stretch, but that's my point about the real versus the part-time fan..perhaps I'm fortunate that I can afford to pay full freight for my jersey from my club - but it still drives me nuts that I have to deal with faux-fans (who could easily afford 50 pounds) who don't put their money where their big, big mouths are..and normally the cheaper the jersey, the bigger the mouth.
The ironic thing is many of these same folks will easily shovel over $100 for a replica leaf jersey from Leafsport

NotASpoiledAthelete - from Canada writes: Random - who does ManU have from Brasil? Anderson! Are you kidding me?? The guy has 4 goals in 59 games for ManU and the exact amount of ZERO when suiting up for his country.
As for Argentina, yes - the devils have Tevez - and he's great, but in Argentina he isn't considered their best player (although he does have a great nickname..Apache).
Consider that he's only played 6 games less than Riquelme for his country, but has scored 10 fewer goals.
Heck - even Lucho Gonzalez, who has played only 1 game more than Tevez is only 2 goals behind him in total goals scored for Argentina...
You should try looking across the Channel to Barcelona to find Argentina's best player.

NotASpoiledAthelete - from Canada writes: Random - your point is getting seriously diluted. Honestly I'm not sure what your point is at all..Foreign stars play in England, Spain (and mostly in) Italy because of the cash - PERIOD. You think they're playing in Yorkshire for the weather?
As for your question..On the 2006 WC squad for Argentina, 3 players plied their trade in Argentina while the following two played in Brasil:
Javier Mascherano (that name sound familiar?)
Carlos Tevez (again, that name sound familiar?)
As for Brasil - 3 of their players from 2006 played in Brasil, while only ONE played in England (Gilberto).
Oh - and should the Euro ever gain value against the Pound, enough for parity or more - just watch the mass exodus from the PL - because dimes to doughnuts, they would leave.
The best was a story that broke years ago where one agent was overheard telling his (famous) client in England that when he scored his first goal for his new club, to kiss the crest on his jersey because the fans would eat that up!
