Wilf Kruggel from Canada writes: The Finland-US game was a pathetic display of officiating and to allow a Finland goal that went through the side of the net without checking the net for a hole was inexcusable. Besides, the finns looked like a bunch of candya$$ "whimps" and the typical faking injuries etc, did nothing to make me feel that I should cheer for them, Wilf

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Hate to offend both the Americans and the Don Cherry Fan Club Members here, but the Finns definitely deserved this win.
I actually picked the Finns to win heading into the third because their team play was far superior to the Americans' constant individual efforts.
Both Koivus played very well -- Too bad that they didn't convert on that short-handed give and go in the second. Esche made a great glove save.
The International referees were true to usual form in calling a penalty if any player ever fell down. I don't think that there was a bias towards either team, however.
Cheers.- Posted 11/05/08 at 11:11 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Popeye Dillon from North Vancouver, Canada writes: Pretty sad that the IHF didn't have the game declared a tie rather than let a " no goal" stand. Fire the offical : Who cares. Correct the idiots mistake.

Sev Scott from calgary, Canada writes: Esche was doing the old Coco wild arm swing after the puck is shot into his glove. Yes, you have to have your glove in the right spot, but there was an act that went along with it. The goal? Well, if Canada was playing, and no one on the Canadian team said anything, I would be upset. These guys are sportsmen, first and foremost, or that is what I thought. The Fins can say it was a bad call, but why did they play act at the time? At the end? Well, the bloody Fin took his gloves off first, and a Euro should neve do that with a North American. The Yanks did unwind, which was disappointing.

David P from stuck in Calgary, Canada writes: Had to laugh when I saw Koivu's cheap shot comment...apparently he's never watched countryman Jarko Ruutu play...was a body check, I thought the elbow at the end was a cheap shot...the fight at the end was hilarious though, wonder what the Finn was thinking by not dropping his stick and actually using both hands...The Finns played a better team game, but the least the IIHF could do was fire the inept goal judge...how they called that a goal is beyond me, but the brutal officiating from the IIHF should be no surprise to anyone...I hope Canada lays a beat down on the Finns...would be nice to see another 5 or 6 goal game...

BSG Rocks from Calgary, Canada writes: That quite possibly was the worst call in the history of video replay. The puck, from every angle shown, so obviously went through the side of the net, that it is hard to fathom that the video replay judge actually looked at the replay. Far more likely the judge had a personal bias against the U.S. Not only should they have been fired but they should have been outed too. Would be interesting to know which country they were from. It would be a black mark indeed if they were a Canadian judge, though I am guessing that it was not.

Keith Crouchwr from Halifax, Canada writes: I was at the game and well yes the goal should ahve been no goal. Why fire the goal judge, it should be the review official fired as well. As for the Finns flopping, well those that were at the game thought we were watching athe USA and FINN diving team in the second period. Everyone was diving when they were touched. It was a true NHL style game.

Jan Burton from Toronto, Canada writes: Lest anyone wonder why we never allowed Euro refs to oversee Canada's games in the Canada Cup tournaments. The officiating in Euro is "different" to put it mildly.
I really don't think the video goal judge even looked at that first Finish goal. There's NO way he could have.- Posted 12/05/08 at 9:45 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Wilf Kruggel from Canada writes: I do not understand why one often sees very gifted hockey players resort to the "Ruutu" type shameful antics. They always seem to get away with this sort of thing in European officiated games. I would rather not see this sort of thing happen here. Ban those socalled championships from Canada if they do not have NHL referees in them. Save us from this embarrasment. Wilf

Don D from Canada writes: Hey Chris
Right about the on ice officiating but it appears the NHL video replay crew works the USA Finland game for the worlds in the afternoon then does the Pittsburgh Philly game at night. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: H R from Finland:
As I said earlier, Team Finland doesn't seem to get enough credit for both their toughness and their talent. As I also said earlier, the Finns deserved to win that game, and were clearly the superior team by the end -- controversy or no controversy.
Team Canada cannot afford to take your team lightly, and all 4 of our lines will need to be firing.
Agree with you - May the best team win this afternoon in Halifax.

Michael Mule from United States writes: I always find it funny when people say "well, they deserved to win they played better". If I remember correctly, the team who puts the most pucks into the net wins and I'm pretty sure that putting one in from the side of the net doesn't count. I could just hear Chelios now if this ever happened to the Red Wings.
