Canada Forever from Canada writes: Who cares about Becky? I am more worried about losing great young talents than Becky. Only part time supporters and soccer moms are worried about this, the real fans care about wins and the chants for match day.

Jimmy Savile from Canada writes: I could care less if Becks comes to Toronto or not but there's no disputing that he's still a talent, as are many, many players over 30. It's still a young man's game compared to some other sports but 30 today is a lot different than 30 in the 1960s or 70s. Capello doesn't play popularity contests - he selects on merit and is firm about it.

Arsenal Ian from Toronto, Canada writes: Sorry to disappoint you Stephen, but Beckham wasn't called up for the England team because he is still talented. He was called up because he can fill a stadium in the 3rd World.
England are playing in Trinidad for one reason - to get Jack Warner, head of the TTFF, to support England's bid for the World Cup in 2018. It certainly isn't because the SocaWarriors (and I am one) will be a real test of the English squad. Warner, whose support is crucial for England to win the right to host WC 2018, will needless win many accolades at home for bringing a "name-brand" English team to the twin-island Republic.
Tom Huddlestone (from Spurs) is a much better player than Beckham today, but he isn't name brand and he won't fill a stadium in Trinidad. As such, he will be on the bench while Beckham will gets the start.
It would be very cynical for me to suggest that Warner might recieve some financial benefit from ticket sales which have been huge. This is football, not hockey. Things are always more complex then they seem.

B I from Toronto, Canada writes: This TFC weekly post pretty much confirms that he isn't coming. But it also poses the question, does it matter anymore?

It really doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is that Toronto gets three points.- Posted 13/05/08 at 6:07 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

John P from Canada writes: Most of what Arsenal Ian says is true. Jack Warner is corrupt to the bone and basically blackmailed the English FA into this game. Called England an "irritant" and stated his case for England not getting the World Cup...... then all of a sudden he changes his tune throwing his support behind England's bid only after they agree to this friendly.
