Police seek vandal after Ont. memorial defaced

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — Toronto's fire chief calls it a “despicable act.”

Someone defaced a memorial to fallen firefighters outside the Ontario legislature on Monday night.

One section of the memorial was splashed with black paint and other sections were painted with various anti-government slogans.

Fire chief Bill Stewart says defacing the memorial is a “disgrace to the memory of firefighters ... who paid the ultimate sacrifice.”

Police are viewing surveillance videos in hopes of identifying a lone suspect.
