Iamgold profit triples

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — Iamgold Corp.'s first-quarter earnings almost tripled to $34.4-million (U.S.) from $11.3-million a year ago, boosted by high gold prices and asset sales. The Toronto-based miner said Tuesday that revenues rose 42 per cent to $208-million from $146.4-million, thanks in part to higher prices for gold and ferroniobium. Average realized gold price rose to $899 per ounce compared with $648 per ounce in the first quarter of 2007.
