TORONTO Abdullah Khadr's mother says she's not surprised the Americans paid Pakistan a bounty to arrest her son.
What was surprising, she says, was the amount — half a million dollars.
Maha Elsamnah says she didn't realize her son was that important to the United States.
She also says she's glad a judge has now ordered the information about the bounty be made public so that Canadians have a more informed view of her son.
The U.S. wants Canada to extradite Mr. Khadr, who has been in jail in Toronto since his return from Pakistan in December 2005.
Mr. Khadr's lawyers argue the basis for the extradition request are statements he gave American intelligence agents in Pakistan after he was tortured.
