Gogh Forit from Canada writes: The Flyers are playing a Penguins team much different than the one they played all season when they won the regular season series. The Penguins won't be intimidated as long as they don't take retaliation penalties. Should they do that they'll intimidate the Flyers instead by putting the puck in the net everytime the Flyers go to the penalty box.
Kennedy proved the other night that the Pens can chuck knuckles with the Flyers and that's what Philadelphia will be reduced to as their diminished blue line corps will be sucking wind by the end of the second. Derian Hatcher looked like he needed a walker by the third period of both games 1 & 2. The guy simply can't play 30 minutes a game. It's unlikely Coburn will be back for game 3 but he'll make for game 4. It's just a question mark as to how effective he'll be after getting 50 stitches for the puck smacking him in the face in game 2.
Intimidation....that's for the sports writers.- Posted 13/05/08 at 3:20 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

J.C. Petite from Toronto, Canada writes: What a dumb article, like really what do you expect Ruutu and Sidney to say when asked this question? "Uhhh...well...ya we are intimidated. The Flyers scare the crap out of us and their fans always get into our heads. Hopefully they will just keep the noise down so we can come out with the win".

bob smith from Canada writes: Nice analysis Gogh Forit. But, the article was actually about teams being intimadated by the Wacchovia crowd, not the Flyers players. Who would be intimidated by this Philly team?

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Here's why it's likely a dumb question to ask the Pens if they are intimidated by the Flyers ...
The Pens' average weight is 208 lbs...
The Flyers' average weight is 201 lbs...
Actually, the Flyers will be a little less than that since Braydon Coburn (6'5", 220 lbs) likely won't be playing...
For some reason, I don't think guys like Hal Gill (6'7", 250 lbs), Georges Laracques (6'3", 243 lbs), Ryan Malone (6'4", 224 lbs) and Gary Roberts (6'2", 215 lbs) will be that easy to intimidate...
Cheers.- Posted 13/05/08 at 3:39 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Shawn Bull from Canada writes: I'm freakin' intimidated by the Flyer fans and I sit at home and watch the game from my couch.
I couldn't imagine having to play there. Mental stability and Flyer fans do not go hand in hand....they also happen to be the best hockey fans in the world.- Posted 13/05/08 at 3:43 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Gogh Forit from Canada writes: Agreed Bob. But put two more pucks in the net than the home team and that Philly crowd will get so quiet you'll be able to hear the belches from the beer being slurped.

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Gogh Forit from Canada:
Two observations...
Yes, it's also interesting that Tyler Kennedy (5'11", 183 lbs) is the smallest player in the Pens lineup, but he did well to "chuck knuckles with the Flyers" as you have indicated...
Recall that Coburn was reported to be dizzy and vomiting after taking that puck to the head in game #2...
Go Pens.

bob smith from Canada writes: I don't know what the Flyers will have to do to outlive people's memories of the 1970's. This team is not very big and definitely not very mean yet throughout the playoffs, every reporter and fan has said Philly has to out muck, out hit, or intimidate their opponents to win. What are you watching?
Sure Hatcher is a relic from a different age, and there were a couple suspensions this year, but this is not a fearsome team and they don't pretend to be.- Posted 13/05/08 at 3:56 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Pat Billings from CDN, Canada writes: The only toughness the Flyers show is after the whistle. Even then, they have to make sure Laraque, Ruutu, Roberts and Gill aren't on the ice. Even Upshall took a beating from Kennedy last game.
As for the fans, they clearly know nothing about the game. Otherwise, they would know their team has consistently been outhit throughout the playoffs and don't have the size or toughness to run anybody out of their building.
Is there a team that whines more about officiating than the Flyers?- Posted 13/05/08 at 5:03 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Jimmy's Lunch from Canada:
Perhaps you missed the fact that the Flyers are a much smaller team and don't have anywhere near the number of tough players that the Pens have...
So, let me put this in terms that even a Flyers' fan might understand...
Sid to Philly, "If I'm slapped, Malkin, Hossa and myself get a powerplay and your guy might have to talk to the Rock one day at a time of our choosing."

Rob C from Canada writes: Intimidated? Why? Because they keep winning...what a stupid article? Lets try and make a story out of these 2 series, which are turning out to be complete duds...The Pens might be afraid of being gooned by one of the Flyer's current cement heads. Beinghecked from behind - having your eye potentially poked out...typical Fyer "hockey plays" - or maybe do a story on the flyers being intimidated by Laroque and Roberts.

dan vanman from Canada writes: What a stupid story. JC Petite (nice try Nogoalof!) said everything I was going to say. Pittsburgh, watching the games, has , at times, brought the physical game to the Flyers, not the other way around! Hardly the look of a team thats "intimidated"!

BRIAN DUNPHY from Canada writes: Talk about karma. Coburn gets a puck in the face, takes 50 stitches and misses game 3 because he was so busy trying to break Malkin's wrist with a cheap shot slash that he didn't see the puck coming. Too bad it wasn't Hatcher.

reality man from ottawa, Canada writes: Why don't you wait until Pittsburgh actually loses a game to Philly before claiming that they are intimidated? The fact that the Pens lost all 4 games in Philly means squat. The regular season isn't a reliable predictor of results in the playoffs e.g. Boston lost all 8 games to Montreal this year but took the playoff series to Game 7; Philly didn't win a game against Montreal all year and then bounced them easily in the playoffs; the Pens won only won one game against Ottawa and swept them; the Pacific division appeared to be the best in the NHL all season and the one team out of that division to make the conference finals is getting demolished by Detroit, etc. That's why the playoffs are held every year to determine a champion rather than just handing the Cup automatically to the President's Trophy winner

The article is about the fans in Philly being intimidating...
Man.
That list includes you Miller and Billings and ah sails and you too Rob C. All regular posters that should know better.
As J.C. Petite said... it was a stupid question to ask a hockey player.

Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Well, folks, it's all over. 4 to 1, three games to zip. They manhandled Malkin, they crashed Crosby, but they couldn't handle Hossa and certainly couldn't fluster Fleury. Rather painful to watch. Flyers were courageous but clearly outclassed. Hopefully this is done with Thursday.
