As a bc survivor, who never liked team sports, I started running at age 64, ran my first half-marathon at age 70 and am still into 10 k's. Running makes you feel good, lose weight, and keeps the nasties at bay.

Many choose to stay active, regardless of the impact on the visible physical diseases. My wife and I work with walkers and runners who are dealing with diabetes, and we are continually humbled by their efforts and their stories.
    On Monday, we will be lacing up the shoes here in Thunder Bay with hundreds of others in the second-oldest 10 mile road race in North America. Two of the noted runners (in everyone's eyes) are 75-year old Vi Turner and 79-year old Jean Lyon. Both of them continue to 'race' in this and many other running races throughout the year.
    They also deserve our respect and congratulations.

    Having children
    Breast feeding children
    Birth control pills
    Not smoking

    and yes exercise

  8. Margot Wojciechowski from Chapala, Mexico writes: and in the same edition a quiz asking about taking Vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk of breast cancer. What is the best way to take vitamin D??? Not supplements, but by being outdoors - walking or running for example.
