Edwards backs Obama's bid for president
WASHINGTON — John Edwards, one of the heaviest of heavyweights within the Democratic Party leadership, threw his support to Barack Obama last night, further tightening the Illinois senator's grip on the presidential nomination.
Mr. Edwards, the former North Carolina senator and 2004 vice-presidential nominee, was the third-place candidate in that race before dropping out in January.
