Is Canada's geography a breast cancer risk?
Genes, having a first period before the age of 12 and being obese are among the frequently cited risk factors for breast cancer in women. But if the theory that vitamin D plays a role turns out to be true, there may be an unexpected cause for Canadian women: latitude.
Living in a northern, high-latitude country could be a risk because geography determines how much vitamin D people are able to make from sun exposure, the reason the nutrient is often dubbed the sunshine vitamin.
