  1. Brandon Linton from United States writes: Leave it to Mexican police work to accuse a Canadian for this one too.
  2. Hydrogen Bob from Toronto, Canada writes: Tomorrow they will anounce that they have arrested the killer. A retiree from Kenora who was on a vacation with his wife to celebrate their 40'th anniversary.
  3. Ruth Walker from Edmonton, Canada writes: Between the authorities and the criminals, Mexico is a pretty dangerous place for Canadians. I have had guns pointed at me all around the world, but always it was either the authorities or the criminals - not both!

Myself, I stay away from Mexico.
  4. Nathan Cool from Vancouver, Canada writes: Ken, don't feed the troll!
  5. harry carnie from Northern, B.C, Canada writes: 'hossein hajiagha' O.K. you have made fun of immigrants.........and some of it was amusing.
Time to give it up now that you have 'peaked'
  6. Random Person from Heard and Mc Donald Islands writes: All inclusive?
  7. Veritas Canada from Canada writes: Canada is the most beautiful country in the world. Why do people bother visiting places like the U.S. and Mexico?
  8. Craig Cooper from Toronto, writes: Why do people go to that sh*thole in the first place?
  9. S.L. S from Small Town, Canada writes: Veritas Canada from Canada, every place has it's beauty. You just have to really look for it sometimes. My wife and I travel to see the history a place has to over and to enjoy the cultures and people.
  10. lotusland maritimer from Sault Ste Marie, Canada writes: Like moths to flames Canucks to Mehico. It's not as if they havent been warned by well publicised atrocities. Sure even here there are risks even in Toronto or Montreal, but some places are notorious for this lets get a dumb Canuck for fun attitude, Mexico Caribbean Florida. I would not set foot anywhere in this hemisphere outside of Canada nor anywhere in the world except for NW Europe. The rest of the world is a basket case and all you will get is a coffin if you are lucky. Travel in time or in books or other media, the reality is crime corrupt police and open season on innocents abroad. If you are insane enough to travel for sex or drugs you deserve to be what you will become: roadkill. I doubt if any of these Canucks are there to see the archaeology or the art which you can read about in books or the internet. And you can learn Spanish a dozen different ways here. Nothing is dumber that a dumb tourist who doesnt know the language the culture the history the geography the flora and fauna the geology. I mentioned to a Caribbbean bound tourist about a comet invisible from Canada and the great chance of seeing the Great and Small Magellanic Clouds. You could cut the blank incomprehension with an ulu. Or the chance of seeing an active volcano. Ditto. Why do these ahem people travel? They of course will see nothing learn nothing experience nothing. The other gems are an American lady from Peoria demanding rare steak in Paris with ketchup, or anybody who seeks out a MacDonalds in Peking or Moscow. Or a Canadian girl who spent ten years there and hasnt learned a word of Russian as everyone speaks English anyway. Why why why? Of all the idiotic follies of mankind tourism must be near the top. And to go to places where you get murdered...
  11. Okanagan Man from Sunny Vernon, Canada writes: A person was murdered in the Okanagan the other day. Best stay away from here too.
  12. Between a Rock and a Hard bit from Sattahip, Thailand writes: Don't you folks worry the Mexican police (snicker) will have this solved in no time flat. These are super sleuth after all who pinned the murder of that older couple on those nurses. They are are pathetic as they come.
I don't go to Mexico and you could not pay me to get diarreaha.
  13. Robert Rivers from France writes: There are two points,

It is short minded to say, 'I will never visit Mexico again,' it is a rather large country. Even many Mexicans would agree that Cancun is the worst place in Mexico for drugs and gangs. So don't be the fool, you can go to many nice places in Mexico for the culture.

Also going to an all inclusive resort in Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Tahiti or some other place with a beach is not 'Opening ones horizons'. Learning a language, living and trying to get by in a foreign country that is opening ones horizons.

Finally, three or four deaths in Cancun is tragic, but there is a lot of money going through that area related to gangs and many more deaths than reported. This article appears to announces, 'ATTENTION ALL CANADIANS, IF YOU WANT TO DIE GO TO MEXICO' fear mongering rubbish.
  14. Brian Dell from Alberta, Canada writes: It actually concerns me more when a whitebread church-going American is victimized in Mexico than a Canadian with an Asian name, since if they are gunning for a suburban whitey they could be comin for me next! I realize that I share a passport with the victim in this case, but the passport likely made no difference to the perpetrator of this crime.
  15. g chan from Canada writes:
Canadian goverment should issue travel advisory against Mexico.

Not issuing a travel advisory is dereliction of duty and responsibilities to Canadians.

A goverment that will not stand up & protect its citizens is not fit to govern.
  16. tommy killian from montreal, Canada writes: i have no desire to leave canada unless its to go to western europe. the u.s. is dangerous in crime and unless youre lilly white the authorities there could do you harm ( mahar arar ). mexico is a cesspool or crime and police corruption. if you must visit someplace warm in the winter maybe cuba or a few of the european carribean islands. thats just me. no us, no mexico, some carribean, some europe. thats it.
  17. A Better Canada from no-quebec, Canada writes: As I wrote several times, before, Canadians are stupid and irresponsible to go to Mexico. We can not rely upon the Mexican police, and forget our coward embassy, with naive peter and ignorant Bernier. By the way, are we getting any benefits with the so-called free trade with Mexico? Time to move further south, with more civilized people. What is the difference between Mexico and Quebec? In Mexico, they kill you to steal; in Quebec, they steal from you, legally, with the cooperation of wicked judges.
  18. Stude Ham from Outremont, Canada writes: these violent crimes in tourist land are a clear indication that the government of mexico is facing some kind of significant popular unrest.

in particular, it appears from the occasional news clips that the mexican authorities are fighting losing wars against both the native peoples and the ascending drug lords.

at one time anyone travelling to mexico worried about was the water and montezuma's revenge.
  19. John Stockton from Canada, Canada writes: Hossein = 'Borat'
  20. Canadian Abroad from London, United Kingdom writes: Incredible... Saying they won't travel outside of the Western World, and even excluding many parts of it. You don't have any information on what led to this. There is no indication they were having a quiet night in their hotel room and the murderer randomly picked room 29. It could have happened this way, but I bet there is more here than the article suggests. Two of the other 3 deaths make reference to a night club. Its not hard to imagine booze or drugs were involved. I've been to Mexico, to the clubs (when I was younger) and its incredibly different. You can't act as you would in Canada. The guy's girlfriend you hit on may take an exception. The guy who's out looking for an excuse to fight is likely to do a lot more knowing you're a foreigner. Even the act of taking a pee in an alleyway after a few drinks is treated differently. I saw one guy duck into an alley to do so, and the army (yes they have truck loads of them in Cancun) sent 4 soldiers in the make him mop it up with his shirt, and made him put it back on. They also made him pay over all the money he had not to arrest him. In plain sight of everyone. The point being. You can't act like a drunken idiot abroad and this should be no surprise. Mexico is a beautiful country. The Mayan ruins are incredible. There are not many places in the world that let you actually climb a pyramid.
  21. David CZ from Czech Republic writes: Sad to read so many generalized declarations and fear instilled personal rules. Live your lives, people! Want to live it out of a book, through TV, in the secure confines of your neighbourhood, that's a your prerogative. Just all the 'how to travel, where to travel, etc' judgementalism...give it a rest.
  22. Brian Dell from Alberta, Canada writes: Stewed Ham applies his Outremont analysis: this crime was caused by taking too hard a line on drugs and not enfranchising natives.
  23. Robert Dryburgh from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada writes: I don't hear anyone warning people away from Winnipeg. Plenty of murders, at least one stabbing every day, and the car theft capital of the world. This and gestapo like parking authorities, yet there are no cries of boycott. I wouldn't hesitate ever going to Mexico.
  24. Comrade Liberalsky from Canada writes: Perhaps if The Department of Foreign Affairs had taken appropriate steps to prevent people from travelling to Mexico or issuing the appropriate travel advisories this wouldn't be happening.

However, don't expect this anytime soon from Harpers' neocon government as he is too busy toadying up to Bush and Calderon.
  25. Some Guy from Ottawa, Canada writes: I wonder if Mexicans are aware of the negative view the travelling world is taking of them. I don't intend on visiting a 'me-to' vacation 'hot-spot' but these events bolster my decision to stay away. While it would be helpful for the government to issue a travel advisory anyone with half a mind who has some exposure to the news can make an informed decision on their travel plans.
