BCE shares pounded

Canadian investors pounded BCE Inc. shares Tuesday, amid reports that the banks that have agreed to finance the proposed $35-billion takeover may back away unless the price is reduced from the $42.75 a share already approved by shareholders.
BCE's stock closed down $1.42, or 3.7 per cent, on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The TSX was closed Monday for the Victoria Day holiday, and Canadian investors were catching up with their U.S. counterparts.
