Consumer prices up more than expected in April

OTTAWA — Consumer prices were still benign in Canada in April, but rising gasoline and food prices pushed inflation higher than projected, up 1.7 per cent from a year earlier, Statistics Canada said. Economists had been expecting a 1.4 per cent increase, the same rise noted in March.
