Taking gorilla health to heart

At first, Subira didn't like the feel of the ultrasound gel on his chest. But enticed by mangoes, flavoured tofu and other healthy treats, the 13-year-old male gorilla has become a co-operative patient in an experimental heart-monitoring program. He lifts his muscular arms over his head and presses his chest against the mesh surrounding the gorilla enclosure at the Toronto Zoo so veterinarian Jennifer Hess can reach in and position a probe on his chest.
