Brush fire forces evacuations in Nova Scotia

PORTERS LAKE, N.S. — Thick smoke from an out-of-control forest fire outside Halifax prevented crews on the ground and in the air from seeing late Friday if any of the more than 400 homes that had to be evacuated had been damaged or destroyed. Three water bombers and a helicopter dropped water on the massive blaze right up until dark as crews struggled unsuccessfully to get the fire contained before nightfall.
