Martin Bragg, artistic producer for the Canadian Stage Company, will step down after the 2008-2009 season.
Bragg made the announcement Wednesday.
“After more than a decade and a half of great artistic achievement, and times of prosperity and challenge, I have decided that it is time for me to turn the keys over to new leadership,” he said in a statement.
“I have been very fortunate to have forged many treasured relationships with this company and, for that, I will be forever grateful.”
CanStage's 2008-2009 season – which will include productions of Frost/Nixon and Wild Dogs – will be Bragg's 17th with the company. His current contract with the Toronto-based theatre company expires in June, 2009.
“I have informed the board of directors that I will not be seeking a renewal,” Bragg said.
Early this year, CanStage found itself at the centre of controversy when its artistic director of seven months, David Storch, resigned. Firings and financial issues followed.
In the wake of the controversy, several Canadian playwrights launched a letter-writing campaign calling for a review of Bragg's tenure.
