No new Moon at Raptors' free-agent camp

A quick round-up from my visit to the ACC today before I get to writing, you know, a story.. The Raptors had their free-agent camp over the weekend and while no one is predicting another Jamario Moon to emerge, team insiders were pleased with what they saw. Tamar Slay got some important votes for the best player in camp as did Hassan Adams, Pooh Jeter and John Lucas. Most importantly Rod Benson, the best blogging basketball player on the planet, also impressed. The folks at Raptors HQ have a rundown if you really need one.

Also at the ACC today was Matt Bonner. Before anyone gets too excited it turns out he's staying in Toronto this summer as he's getting married in August to his girlfriend Nadia, who's from Toronto. The wedding is in Toronto, and like teammate Tony Parker Bonner said he's planning to sell the photography rights to People “to pay for the castle.”

Anyway, because Matt likes to work out he got approval from the Raptors via R.C. Buford to have access to the Raptors facility. Bonner said he was curious to see if Robert Horry retires or not, given that it will have a big impact on his potential minutes with the Spurs, and when I asked him how such a boy-scout troop like the Spurs might absorb J.R. Smith – less than a boy scout insiders would suggest – Matt said that the organization doesn't really tolerate any mess, and than everyone pretty much falls in line behind Duncan, Ginobili and Bowen. If the rumours are true and Smith does end up in San Antonio and he fits in well that will be a major boost to the Spurs. That kid can flat score.

Also, J.J. Hickson made his second visit to the Raptors which, based on this profile isn't all that inspiring, but hey, 15 and nine as a freshman in the ACC on 60-per-cent shooting is nothing to sneeze at.
