Catherine Medernach from Winnipeg, Canada writes: Guilty people often protest their innocence but time will tell what the truth is in this situation. From what I have read to date, it would appear that the Warden was involved. However, with all the problems with the ANP I am willing to give the police chief the benefit of the doubt until when/if there is evidence to the contrary. He may have made mistakes - but that is not evidence of a criminal offence.

The choices we make decide our place in life from Canada writes: Has anyone noticed how we can comment on this foreign cop but the comments on the story about 2 Toronto cops charged in grow-op raids has been shut down. Even more interesting, the story was posted at 4:02pm. By 4:06pm there had been 9 comments posted and then is was shut down. I guess we are not allowed to comment on police corruption in Canada now.

Catherine Medernach from Winnipeg, Canada writes: Kathleen Degelder - and your point is? That the police chief is a Taliban? At any rate that is an assumption that tars everyone with the same brush. It is easy to say none of them are honest but the fact is some have never had the opportunity to know anything but what they learned in a madrassah from semi illiterate Mullahs. They may be ignorant of many things but that does not mean they are all dishonest. Their views are based on a very limited knowledge and many honestly believe because what they believe is all that they know.

Steven Ferguson from Canada writes: Stude, the Canadian Parliament voted to keep the troops in Afghanistan until 2011 to help maintain security and rebuilding efforts. Both the Conservatives and Liberals supported this mission. I cannot see either the Conservatives or the Liberals bailing out on that commitment, and I cannot see anyone but the Liberals or Conservatives forming the government between now and 2011. Conclusion - we are there to 2011.

the coffee? you mean tim hortons at that sitting duck kandahar base in a'stan? and about this stupidity... the a'stan quagmire into which we dumped ourselves... noone ever thought the US would one day pull out of Nam... but they did... and as far as the parliamentary vote is concerned... if the the afghans overrun their country before 2011 that resolution will look pretty sick... and if you think that such idiotic resolutions remain binding then there is considerable stupidity in those beliefs.

Catherine Medernach from Winnipeg, Canada writes: jan bakker - try reading my post again. It was in response to the post by Kathleen Degelder - 'I don't think there is such a thing as a honest Taliban' - what I was saying was that you cannot assume that all Taliban are dishonest - many believe in what they are doing and have no basis for an alternative belief - to you I would say that a conscience is something that is developed not genetic and as bad as we may see the actions of the Taliban, many will have a clear conscience because their beliefs dictate that there is nothing wrong with what they are doing. Those who have been raised in isolation and kept from learning anything other than a particular interpretation of the Koran and hate and fighting have not had the opportunity to develop a conscience as we think of it in our society. They are not connected to society outside of the Taliban. This is not intended as a criticism but a comment on the reality of many young Taliban fighters. It is very simplistic to assume that all Taliban are dishonest and is a judgement that I am not convinced is accurrate.
