If age was the criterion here, Mata Hari would never have seduced men into her late forties, Barbara Amiel would never have snagged her later hubbies, Kim Campbell wouldn't have hooked a thirtysomething in her fifties etc. Tonnes of old chicks bagging younger men these days, buds. If you look at the facts, it seems to be more about a man in a fullblown midlife crisis, married to a slightly older, much more famous, wealthy, and independent woman. Cook would have married Christie in his late thirties? So he hits his late forties and panics. Meanwhile, the zest with his wife has understandably faded after years of marriage. Maybe he resents the fact that she gets all the attention when they go out, that she's got money, connections, powerful friends etc. Maybe she runs the show at home. So he basically buys himself a young girl, obscure, poor, and puts her in a position where she's pretty much dependent on him. This narrative is only incidentally about sex. It's much more about power.

I don't think cheating on his wife was the way to go, but it bad karma is delivered back to Brinkley's doorstep (she cheated on her -much older- husband at the time, Billy Joel). Anyway, life goes on.

    It's all power and insecurity on his part that led him to cheat as some of the other posters eluded too.
    I get that she's hurt and angry so she wants to get revenge on him by humiliating him in public. Although, she's just hurting herself and her kids in the process.

    I still think she should have stuck with Billy Joel.

Amazing to hear most men refer to a very beautiful 50'ish woman as 'an old bag' amongst other things, and to express shock and dismay that such a young buck as Mr. Cook (only 49 - barely out of boyhood) would marry a woman of such advanced years in the first place! No wonder the poor thing diddled around with an 18 year old!

    In my estimation, the affair Mr. Cook had was a good match for him, and would also be good for most of the men on this site who have posted comments. Clearly, you are all have the emotional maturity level of an 18 year old, at best.

    Yup, men are pigs. I've seen lots of hot 50 year olds, more hot 18 year olds though. Lighten up.
