Charest applauds bilingualism on eve of Quebec City's birthday

QUEBEC — On the eve of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City and the arrival of the French language and culture in North America, Quebec Premier Jean Charest praised bilingualism yesterday for offering Canadians more freedom and opportunity. Speaking in the city at the opening of the World Heritage Committee's annual meeting, Mr. Charest said it is important to speak two languages to better understand the world.
