  1. Nathan Cool from Vancouver, Canada writes: I've never understood why the Globe insists on writing their sports articles this way. It's all backward.. it makes no sense.

Summarize the result, then start at the first quarter and end at the fourth!
  2. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: Riders defence looked awesome and Cates out of sight. Now we need to get healthy, somehow!!
  3. boom boom from Canada writes: Long night for Wallyball.
  4. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: RM from Regina, Canada:

Do they still sell that amazing Safeway Salsa out there anymore?

    Is Earls still open ?
  5. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: R. Miller....Earls is indeed still open and a fav for the upwardly mobile and "successful" young execs. and eye candy as their Porsches and BMW's gleam outside. Couldn't tell you about Safeway Salsa but I wouldn't doubt it...I'll check the next time I am there. :-)

Halifax is one of the most enjoyable cities I have visited as I loved the harbour and the Citadel and THE LOBSTER!!!

Too bad there is not a CFL team in Halifax. We need a Maritime presence in this league to make it truly national in scope.
  6. Don Portz from Trochu AB, Canada writes: I second the motion by R.M. - We sure could use a CFL team from the Maritimes. No reason there shouldnt be one. If Sask. can support one, surely the Maritimes can also.
  7. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: RM from Regina:

The things that I still really miss about Regina are the down-to-earth people, the big sky, the amazing sunsets, the spinach and feta pizza at the Copper Kettle (hope it's still there), the Riders and Earls...

You didn't need to have a Porsche to go to Earls when I lived in Regina... As I understand, you guys have since hit the oil and gas jackpot, however...

You need to try the Safeway Salsa if it's still there... Best store bought salsa that I have ever tasted. Don't get the hot stuff... The medium is still pretty hot...

Yes, it would be great to have, at least, one cross country league in Canada...

In the meantimes, go Riders !

    Cheers.
  8. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: Copper Kettle is still there too! In fact in that area they have a wonderful farmer's/vendor's market every Wed. and Sat. during the spring/summer/fall.s For some reason they haven't mastered winter...:-).....LOVE feta and spinach pizza too.......No you don't need a Porsche to go to Earl's but you do see them there.

The Halifax Schooners.....sounds like a plan! For sure the Maritime provinces could and would support a team.
  9. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: RM from Regina, Canada:

Good to get the local news in one of my favorite former Canadian hometowns on these G&M threads... The G&M stories never really capture these aspects of any town outside the Centre of the Universe very well IMHO.

It really does sound like Saskathchewan is really starting to prosper these days although I am sure that there is also some inevitable growing pains to go through with all the growth that is going on out there...

BTW I never mastered winter in Regina either, but it really was a dry cold.... ;)

You guys in Saskathchewan may likely have your own NHL team someday when all of the prosperity from your province's oil, gas, potash, etc. is realized...

I'll be keeping my eye on the Riders this summer.

Don't tell Hap Stokes that though.... Lions' fan, methinks.

    Cheers
  10. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Oppss... sorry... I meant Saskatchewan in my above post....

Even when I lived there, I had trouble spelling that properly...

I also never even knew that most Canadians like me weren't even pronouncing the Province's name properly until I lived there...

    Cheers.
  11. Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Hey Bookend you bet I'm a Lions fan.
Glued to TSN last night--drank 10 beers too.
And that was B4 the Pineapple Pizza.

    NO FAIR though RM--It's cheating!
Raising 'Killer Gophers' that can eat Lions.

Congrats Rider fans, you played a great game.
How in hell could you win on a 3rd stringer?
Just beat the crap out of the roaring Lions.

Oh & Miller--Just had some great REAL HOT Salsa mins ago.
When I lived in NS couldn't touch HOT food.
Now can't live without my hot fix 2/3 times a day.
After working in Bahia and Sonora 5/6 days a month got addicted.
  12. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: It is best that Halifax not get a team. People like Millertime would be whining about a local son not being treated with respect by the Upper Canada media. Their star player would probably be a flopper.

All you Sask types forget about the Grey Cup this year. You were lucky to win last year against a depleted Bomber team.
  13. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Hap Stokes from Canada:

Ok, since Loucks told me which knees and shoulder to go after if the Habs fanatics and Leafs fanatic ever match up on the ice in Halifax, I'll admit two of my weaknesses that I think that I share with many of my fellow Nova Scotians...

I know that it will come as a real surprise that those of us of Highland descent have an achilles heel of any sort.

However, there are two things that are akin to Superman's kryptonite for most Nova Scotians:

    1. Hot food.
    2. Cold weather...

If it hits -10 degrees here in the winter in Halifax, everyone here seems to start complaining about the cold.....WIMPS !

Too early to yet say, "Repeat," but the Riders do look good so far.

    Cheers.
  14. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: EJ Ravensbud from Canada:

    Oh....

Good to see my personal favorite Internet stalker and friend to clowns has arrived to the party to celebrate Riders pride...

Attacking Riders fans and saying they were just "lucky" to win the Grey Cup last year on a Riders thread is a sure way to prove your superior intelligence to all of us residents outside the Centre of the Universe.

    Good luck with that.

    Cheers.
  15. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: Millertime Riders win approximately once every 20 years. They had their win, so lets get on with picking the next winner. They do not win two years in a row. It is written! Ask Don, he will back me up.

Yes, Millertime, Rider fans know they were lucky to win last year. Millertime it is encouraging to see that you also have interest in a real game in a real leaque other than a watered down primadonna media hyped leaque of overpaid underachievers.
  16. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: EJ Ravensbud from Canada:

I would ask the Don, but that Clown and I aren't really on speaking terms right now... or ever.

BTW Is it really written that the best team cannot win two years in a row ? Could you provide that reference, please ?

Someone might have forget to tell these Prairie guys those rules or perhaps they seek to emulate the accomplishments of the team from the Centre of the Universe in 1996 1997.

    Cheers
  17. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Are you being serious, Ravensbud ?

You are implying that the CFL somehow fixes it that teams cannot be repeat winners of the Grey Cup...

Forget it... My interest in seeing a CFL team in Halifax just plummeted significantly ...

Go Riders -- Break the Rules !
  18. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: Good Millertime, stick to hockey, it is more at your level.
  19. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Are you kidding, Ravensbud ?

Now, I am definitely going to be cheering the Riders this summer...

    Every chance that I get...

This is going to be fun... :)

    Cheers.
  20. george simko from Canada writes: Still waiting for the results of the Als/Winn. game to be posted.
My opinion of your paper would not pass the censors.
  21. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: Millertime you prefer floppers. No floppers in the CFL. Stick to the NHL, especially the flopping birds wearing a tuxedo.
  22. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Hey Ravensbud:

And you prefer clowns, but there are no clowns in blazing suits in the CFL so what gives ?

Check out your article on the Don being awarded the Order of Canada... I used to think that Rex Murphy had some intelligence...

Made some very useful suggestions for you on those threads.

    Cheers.
  23. george simko from Canada writes: Such insouciance is not unusual among people of a certain
maturity. It's just an indicator of how low acceptable discourse
has recently sunk on this site.
    Regards
  24. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: sorry george, Millertime is very knowledgeable about all topics but has a mental anxiety any time Don is brought up as an expert and a noble Canadian. I realize it does not belong on this board but Millertime has so monopolized the Jagr discussion that no one can get a word in. I have to use a secondary avenue to dispute Millertime's various theories.

He now disses a fellow Maritimer Rex Murphy just because Rex wrote a positive piece about my buddy Don.
Please excuse me for cluttering up this board with off topic rhetoric.
Love your word though george -"insouciance", wow, I should be more careful of what one thinks about my behavior
  25. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Newfoundland and Labrador isn't a Maritime province, Ravensbud...

You just lost some big points on credibility on the Rock.

George -- Grew up a big Als fan (Dalla Rivas were in our neighbour), but I'll be watching the Riders this summer.

    Go Riders.

    Cheers
