U.S. energy frenzy leaves Canada out in the cold

For anyone concerned about the rising protectionist mood in Washington, this Friday's U.S. trade figures will mark an ominous development. The country's monthly trade deficit is expected to rise for the third month in row in May to $62.4-billion (U.S.), according to a Bloomberg survey of forecasters. There will, of course, be the usual gnashing of teeth about cheap imports from low-wage countries such as China and its undervalued currency.
