G8 to impose sanctions on Zimbabwe officials
TOYAKO, Japan — G8 leaders condemned Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe presidency as illegitimate late Tuesday and said they will impose financial sanctions on individuals associated with the regime.
After a 30-minute discussion at a dinner session in which the leaders personally hashed out the final language for a statement on Zimbabwe, the word sanctions was not used – to reflect the objections of Russia and Italy, notably.
