Developing countries, G8 reach tepid standoff on climate change

Toyako, Japan — A meeting that brought together the world's biggest wealthy nations and major developing countries produced a tepid statement today on working together on climate change that set no targets for cutting greenhouse-gas emissions. Leaders of the G8 had issued a statement Tuesday at their summit in Toyako, Japan, in which they asserted the entire world should work to cut global greenhouse-gas emissions in half by 2050.
