'G8's powerful voice' decries Mugabe regime
TOYAKO, JAPAN Prime Minister Stephen Harper today hailed a G8 statement condemning Robert Mugabe's regime in Zimbabwe and threatening sanctions as an important step in tightening pressure on the African leader.
Debate on a response to the widely denounced June 27 election in Zimbabwe garnered much time and attention, while Mr. Harper's chief foreign policy priority, Afghanistan, drew comparatively little.
