Of these, I've blogged about Bluebeard and Wake. Congratulations to Michael Posner, my Globe and Mail colleague, for winning the Patrons' Pick for his playwriting debut, Damages. According to the press release I've been sent, "Posner is working on a second act, exploring this story of two estranged brothers, both Holocaust survivors reuniting after 30 years, into a full-length play."
I never really like the term "full-length play", because a play should only be as long as it needs to be whether that's 10 minutes, 75 minutes or two and a half hours with an intermission. I've seen a couple of Fringe hits remounted in the recent months - the hilarious An Inconvenient Musical and the frightening, cleverly staged Minotaur - that felt like they were expanded because their creators felt they should be longer, rather than because they needed to me. I'm confident Posner will avoid that pitfall, however...
But I digress. Even after the Patrons' Picks performances, there will be more Fringe. The Diesel Playhouse will play host to the "Best of the Fringe" July 18 to July 27. The full roster of shows being extended there hasn't been officially announced yet, but I have been told that Kate Hewlett's The Swearing Jar (blogged about here) and the country-rock musical The Christian Republican Fundraiser in Dayton, Tennessee will be part of it. (The latter has some excellent toe-tapping tunes by Grant Tilly and some obvious, but crowd-pleasing jokes about the so-called Red States. I've had the song "Mormons, Won't You Love Your Gay Children?" in my head since catching it at the Cameron House earlier this week.)
As for the hit touring shows, you can catch many of them as they continue on the Canadian Fringe circuit. Next stop: Winnipeg.
A last-minute recommendation: About an Hour features some of the best long-form improv I have ever seen. Don't expect manic and over-the-top comedy; these four performers - Jim Annan (hey, he has a blog!), Rob Baker, Jan Caruana and Alex Hatz - are focused, calm and take things at a walking pace.
Annan, Baker and Hatz are pros (though Baker smirks a bit too much for my taste), but Caruana is an absolute genius. I'm still marvelling at the brilliant dirty math joke she made up on the fly. (It involved the formula for calculating the circumference of a circle... Oh, you had to be there.)
One more show tonight at 8 at the Tranzac (292 Brunswick Avenue).

Megan Mooney from Toronto, Canada writes: I've seen One-Woman Show (which, surprisingly, I really enjoyed), and Damages.
I find it interesting that shows with lots and lots of buzz (People kept randomly stopping me and telling me I MUST go to the Swearing Jar) didn't make it onto the roster. But, I'll be honest, I didn't cast a single vote, it's hard to make my way to the Fringe Tent AND go to shows.
Anyway, I've seen 2, you've seen 2 - so between us that's 4. Now we just need to find folks who've seen the remaining 7. grin
