One of the major challenges facing a mature festival like Montreal's Just for Laughs - now in its 26th year - is how to keep it fresh. Although it may be tempting to rely on acts that consistently sell out their venues, it's also something of a gamble. A certain amount of repetition is necessary, so that the event retains its core identity. Too much, and it risks painting the overall festival in the deadly colours of sameness.
