Lord & Taylor owner modernized fading chain

Richard Baker, whose firm NRDC Equity Partners is the new owner of Hudson's Bay Co., is no stranger to historic brands. In 2006, NRDC, led by Mr. Baker, 42, bought Lord & Taylor, the storied chain of high-end department stores based in New York, for $1.2-billion (U.S.).
