Richard Baker roams the real estate haunts of New York in his hulking black Cadillac Escalade, which serves as a mobile office with flat-screen TV, wireless Internet, fax and printer.
For Mr. Baker, it is a profitable quest, as he navigates the malls and big boxes between his home in pastoral Greenwich, Conn., and the Manhattan flagship of Lord & Taylor, his first big retail venture.
