  1. A. McDonough from Canada writes: Does Aretha Franklin get to sue too. She had a knockout version of Bridge Over Troubled Water.
  2. marc k-b from Picton, Canada writes: Franklin's was a cover which came out over a year after the original. Simon sues because he is the writer. I hope he gets every penny they made on the products that use his stolen song.
  3. Midtown Bob from Toronto, Canada writes: Paul who? Your 15 seconds is going, going, gone...
  4. g h from Canada writes: Paul Simon has written and recorded some terrific music over a period of several decades. Midtown Boob, your nanosecond is over, and out.
  5. Barry Spence from Canada writes: Makes no difference if you've paid enough attention to recognize his name or not, Midtown Bob. (Midtown who??) He wrote the tune. The clock company is making money from his work. As the creator of the music, he should get part of that money.

    A. McDonough: Aretha (through her record company) paid Paul Simon for the use of his work. And Paul Simon gets a small payment for every time her version (or his, or the version recorded by the Living Strings) is played on radio or television. He also receives licencing fees from companies like Muzak (assuming they're still around) for the right to record his music and supply it to bars, grocery stores and elevators.
  6. Anthony B from Maritimes, Canada writes: What an odd choice for a clock to play.

"Scarborough Fair" would have been more appropriate - "parsley, sage, rosemary and THYME"
  7. Stephen Dedalus from Canada writes: If Paul Simon has had "15 minutes" of fame, it's the longest 15 minutes of fame in recorded history.
  8. Larfing Outloud from Virgin Islands (British) writes: Midtown Bob from Toronto, Canada writes: "Paul who? Your 15 seconds is going, going, gone..."

    Dumbest post this week.

    Easily.
