  1. ImaCANADIAN ! from Canada writes: The Serbia/Bosnia/Kosovo wars apparently had much common ground with the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (regime change to pro-Washington governments, ethnic violence, exploitation of religious divisions, drug trade funding, support of various armed groups):

    "Washington has systematically converted NATO into what can only be called the military vehicle of an American global imperial rule, linked by a network of military bases from Kosovo to Poland to Turkey to Iraq and Afghanistan."

    "... from Serbia to Georgia to Ukraine, Washington intelligence agencies have used NGOs, including the George Soros-financed Open Society foundations, the US Congress-financed National Endowment for Democracy, the Central Intelligence Agency-linked Freedom House and Gene Sharp's misleadingly-named Albert Einstein Institution to steer a wave of regime changes which became known as "color revolutions". In each case, the new regime was pro-Washington and anti-Moscow ..."

    The US supported and funded Muslim forces in Bosnia in the early 1990s, under the leadership of the CIA-trained Afghan Mujahideen, infamous for their CIA-directed war against the Soviet Union from 1979-1989. In Bosnia, the Mujahideen were "accompanied by US Special Forces," and Bill Clinton personally approved of collaboration with "several Islamic fundamentalist organisations including Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda." In Kosovo, years later, "Mujahideen mercenaries from the Middle East and Central Asia were recruited to fight in the ranks of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in 1998-99, largely supporting NATO's war effort." The US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the British Secret Intelligence Services (MI6), British SAS soldiers and American and British private security companies had the job of arming and training the KLA. Further, "The U.S. State Department listed the KLA as a terrorist organization, indicating that it was financing its operations with money from the international heroin trade and loans from Islamic countries and individuals, among them allegedly Usama bin Laden," and as well as that, "the brother of a leader in an Egyptian Jihad organization and also a military commander of Usama bin Laden, was leading an elite KLA unit during the Kosovo conflict."

    In Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, there have been atrocities on all ethnic sides, in a a vicious cycle of violence and revenge. In these and other wars, the US seems to have played a role in pitting ethnic groups against each other, arming one side or the other, or one side then the other, for its own purposes.

    At least one of those responsible for these brutal wars is now facing justice.

  3. Slippery Slope from Canada writes: Yup, They were pawns in a global game and fell for it. The reason that the west recognized Bosnia, and then Kosovo is the old 'divide and conquer' game. The US realizes that tiny countries kiss @ss better, and are easier to control.
  4. Mario Lagacé from Canada writes: After reading how Kosovo was managed under the Yugoslav regime, after seeing images of Dubrovnik being bombarded from Serbian positions, after reading about what happened in Sarajevo and Sebrenizna, the Serbs and their supporters can all go to hell.
  5. Paul Wallnutz from Canada writes: I can't help but wonder if Karadzic simply ran out of funds to pay for 'protection'.
  6. Belle Kurve from Canada writes: Have RS and Serbia finally entered the 21st century?

    Where are all the naysayers who predicted doom and gloom after Kosovo declared independence? Seems to me even if symbolic his arrest is an important signal that Serbia is willing to cut loose its ties to the old ways.
  7. Titus Andronicus from Canada writes: The sub-headline says: "Socialist Party of Serbia burns ties with the extreme ethnic nationalism of its past ..."

    ===================================

    And I didn't even know they wore ties in Serbia!

    The danger of burning a tie with someone is the potential for smoke inhalation.

    Meanwhile, there was once a relatively high quality newspaper called the Globe and Mail. Unfortunately, it has been replaced by a rotten, useless rag that has no concept of correct language.
  8. Pablo 9 from Toronto, Canada writes: Karadzic was hidden by the supporters in the secret police and then given up by them. He was used as "currency" to buy something else or settle some other debt. He became worth more to the UN than he was to the Serbs who protected him.
