Golovin withdraws from Montreal event

Canadian Press

MONTREAL — Tatiana Golovin has pulled out of next week's Rogers Cup event in Montreal, Tennis Canada announced Wednesday.

Golovin, ranked 24th in the world, suffered a back injury at a tournament in Germany in May that has kept her off the court.

"I regret that I will not be able to take part in the Rogers Cup next week in Montreal.," said the 20-year-old Frenchwoman. My rehabilitation is progressing and I am still hoping to compete in the Olympics next month."

Meanwhile, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario had to cancel her plans to travel to Montreal for the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The two-time singles champion is suffering from acute gastroenteritis. She will remain in Barcelona, Spain, to receive treatment.
