  2. Peter Walker from Calgary, Canada writes: Father suspended for life for attending and / or coaching any tennis player in any Country.

Daughter suspended for 10 years from major tournaments.

    Obviously the parents' fault!!
Too bad the kid has to suffer also, BUT Fair's Fair!!
  3. Nature Lover from Canada writes: When did they make that rule in tennis? How is this cheating. She could always TRY to do what daddy is telling her but come on she's 8! Level of accuaracy probably pretty low.

How about Hearing-empowered. Back at ya Steve Church from Canada.
  4. j wilson from vancouver, Canada writes: Peter Walker, banning an 8 year old for 10 years?
Father banned for life from attending tennis matches?

Pretty serious tennis commmunity in Calgary, I guess.
  5. Will Smith from Vancouver, writes: Well in tennis, there is no interference allow. The coaches do not sit on the sidelines, they sit in the stands. The player is on their own.

The parent should be banned period - he's one of those people that are living vicariously through their children which can be a detriment to the child.

This is not a parent but this is one of the worst case scenarios that can happen for a child.

    Mike Danton and David Frost

and if you're not familiar with this story, its not just Danton but there were 4 players that Frost had control over. Frost was actually banned at one point from having any contact with the players but the 4 of them would look into the stands to get direction from him during the hockey game and would IGNORE the coach on the bench.

Coaching during a match has never been permitted. It's cheating. Against the rules. Poor form. Not proper. Spot of bother and all that.
Doesn't seem to make sense but neither does the scoring system.
  7. Nature Lover from Canada writes: Okay, no coaching while playing, I got that, but what does this mean "heightened number of questioned calls."? How could remote controlled tennis players result in questioned calls? Does the player make the calls? She's 8.

This is the biggest, alright only, news to come out of New Zealand since uhh umm...

  10. Iain's Opinion from Canada writes: Kids of this age can't, CAN'T, stand up to their parents. Ban the parent, keep close tabs on the kids equipment, but let HER carry on. Put the parents in the ban only. Give the kid a break.
  11. Dr. Strangelove from Edmonton, Canada writes: Post the father's name and photo on the Internet, in newspapers, and on billboards in his home town. Then let his daughter continue to play, with the condition that her father is not allowed within 20 miles of any competition.

It's unfortunate that so many children these days have greedy, selfish parents who live through their kids' accomplishments instead of their own (non-existent) abilities.

  12. J S from Toronto, Canada writes: I feel sorry for this kid. I wonder if she hates tennis yet.
  13. g h from Canada writes: Or hates her father yet.
  14. Ted Branscombe from Kingston, Canada writes: Check out some of the NZ web articles and you'll see a bit more to the story. The kids keep their own score and referee their own games, seems like the younger (and inexperienced) Anastasiya was have difficulty/being taken advantage of (says father) by other girls. Doesn't excuse his maneuver, especially since he's an experienced coach in other sports, he damn well should have known better, but poor kid. At Eight, how well did anybody familiarize themselves with rules? Or would we all have just asked our coach/father? Punishment? I say they've had enough already, kid especially. Even the father - watch him, but banning him from all his kid's tournaments? If anything, his attendance will be scrutinized by other coaches as they watch him like hawks for any sort of communication. Let him attend and hope for his daughter's sake that they can put this behind them. I'm all for fair play and know how frustrating it is when others get away with cheating, but there's a child's relationship with her father as well as her own self-confidence at stake. I for one could care less about the damn tournament for the potential harm that could already be done to that kid. Her father's going to have a lot of work ahead of him to repair the damage he's done. I don't support his actions, but I support any steps on his part to make amends and I hope his daughter can get back up on the horse and play in another tournament soon, next time all on her own.
  15. Paul I from Rochester, United States writes: I think we should cut the kids ears off, sew the dad's mouth shut, and carpet-bomb the courts. We take our youth tennis seriously in the good ol' USA. Don't even think about trying that here.

    Well played!
