Youth shelter gets $800,000 for new beds

VANCOUVER — Over the past two years, hundreds of street kids have knocked fruitlessly on Covenant House Vancouver's door, hoping for a bed for the night or a hot meal.And on more than 2,100 occasions, staff have had to turn them away, sometimes rebuffing the same person half a dozen times in a row, because the shelter was full.
