Laura Labelle from Ladysmith, Canada writes: Bottom Line -WFP has hundreds of workers laid off, and the profit they have made from the sale of Jordon River lands is aproximately 50 million dollars. Makes it hard to swallow when your local WFP mill shuts down saying they can't afford to stay open. Then , your fiber logs are milled from these properties in the states, and that fiber doesn't come back to BC. My husband is a PPWC Plant Chairman, and he would never go back to Harmac if it reopened , there is no supply of fiber to run it. Campbell has continued what the NDP started, removing tree farm licences from crown land , selling them privately, and the communities from which the logs came from don't mill these logs.
Our forest industry is devastated, just got another letter from WFP this week, begging guys 55 and over to take early retirement payout. Campbell should start hiding, he's entirely responsible for selling this industry out. All the years of attending log exports rallies, when the Liberals knew all they had to do was listen. I guess campaign donations from WFP were more important than WTO decisions. Rich Colemans brother is a vice president at WFP - how much more transparent can you get?- Posted 24/07/08 at 1:38 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
