Maple Leaf loss widens

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is gauging consumer reaction to the price of bread, which has risen sharply in the past year, and the company has no immediate plans for further price increases. However, if energy costs take off again, the food-processing company will again have to consider passing on the costs to restore its margins, company executives said in a conference call Thursday.
