George Levecque from Fergus, Ontario, Canada writes: Honda is a well run International company, they have a large investment here in Ontario, only one thing mars this Company is the decision not to allow Canadians to purchase Honda vehicles in the USA and bring them back to Canada without a Warranty, shame on them for this stupid decision!

This relationship approach have helped them retain loyal repeat customers over the years. North American managment mentality is to focus on next quarter's numbers at the expensive of long term success of the company.
  4. who me? from Canada writes: Loyal to the brand and currently on my 2nd Honda (also have BMW & Lexus). Well engineered, reliable cars - that Accord commercial really demonstrated it, plus their F1 success showed us that they can deliver performance.

    I just wish they'd stop fleecing us relative to US pricing. Many Civics built in Aliston go the the States and many Accords built in Ohio come here.

    Despite the deplorable decision on non-tranferable warranty of US-purchased cars imported to Canada, I know people who've taken a chance, just because "it's a Honda", so the perceived risk is very low.

    Good for Honda, they make good products and as mentioned above they look to the future and recgonize what is needed.

    They should openly start hiring workers from AMERICAN car companies. Just like when AVRO shut its doors other companies doing well came and handed out cards.

    Rub the good news in the faces of the dumb asses at AMERCICAN Auto companies who cost so many people their jobs...

Howard Young from Canada writes: During the horsepower war, Hondas fell a bit out of out of favour relative to their Japanese competitors since they don't have a flagship V8 car and their V6 engines trailed in terms of max. horsepower. With high fuel prices, their 4 cyclinder engine cars and less thirsty V6s (some with cyclinder shut-off capability) are more attractive than usual. Also, It doesn't hurt that the restyled Civics and Accords are nice looking cars (from the inside and out).
  7. dave charlston from toronto, Canada writes: Honda of Canada MFG in Alliston are efficient and make nice cars but they have a long way to go in terms of how to work with their employees. In my time there I noticed the work environment was cult like. And the number of employees that brought wrongful dismissal cases against them was a bit shocking. To give you an idea none of my fellow employees from the area i worked (about 15 employees) from 8 years ago are still there. That gives you an idea of the amount of employee turnover. You rarely hear this in the press.

    GM's philosphy: Build sales volume by selling at a loss, and the quality will follow..... eventually...... we hope.....

    Chrysler's philosophy: What do you mean minivans aren't popular anymore???

    Ford's philosphy: Quality? Can you spell that for me?

    Just build good quality cars then people will be happy and loyal to a particular brand.

The Central Screwtinizer from Ottawa, Canada writes: I'm on my 6th Honda in a row...although I like quicker machines, I don't really want one in these days of high cost traffic tickets-lose lots of points-watch your insurance rate skyrocket hello, let alone the price of gas...here's the trade-off and I hate buying high-priced gas-gas-gas! Acura TL 3.2L/11.6 L/100km city; Civic Si 2.0L v-tec/10.2 L/100km city and Civic EX-L 1.8L/7.4 L/100km...highway even better...Acura 7.5 L/100km hgwy; Civic Si 6.8 L/100km hgwy and watchout! Civic EX-L 5.4 L/100km hgwy...and this has been going on for decades. Is it any wonder Honda value has been steadily increasing and the Little 3 GMC/Chrysler/Ford got the dose!

    Honda is unionized in Japan. Honda is not unionized in Canada because they pay their employees union wage rates. Workers in Alliston feel no need to unionize when they are making $90 000 a year with overtime.

    As for Alistair McLaughlin's ignorant comment that Ford doesn't build quality. Maybe you should open your mind Alistair and accept the fact that Ford is on-par with Toyota and Honda. JD Power, CR, and others even admit it.

    I have been reading the posts on Globeauto for a long time now. My conclusion is that if you hate unions, you cheer for the imports.
