Bruins buy out Murray

Canadian Press

BOSTON — Glen Murray's second tour of duty with the Boston Bruins has officially come to an end.

The Bruins bought out the final year of the forward's contract Saturday. The move wasn't surprising as Boston placed Murray, a native of Bridgewater, N.S., on waivers earlier this week.

He cleared waivers without another team putting in a claim on the veteran. Murray, 35, was scheduled to earn US$4.15 million this season and now becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Murray, a two-time all-star, is coming off his least productive season after missing 19 games with a hip flexor.

Murray, a 16-year NHL veteran, has appeared in 1,009 career regular-season games with three clubs (two separate stints with Boston, the L.A. Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins). He has registered 337 goals and 314 assists.
