CALGARY Defensive end Anthony Gargiulo's days with the Calgary Stampeders are over.
Gargiulo was among five players released Tuesday by the Stampeders. Also let go were receiver Chris Jackson, defensive back Willie Byrd, receiver Greg Hetherington and defensive tackle Marcus Parker.
Parker was added to the club's practice roster.
Jabari Levey, a six-foot-five, 310-pound offensive tackle has joined the Stampeders. Levey attended training camp with the Oakland Raiders in 2006 before going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' camp last year.
Gargiulo spent last season as a rookie with Calgary, but suffered a broken leg plus torn ligaments and tendons following a controversial hit by B.C. Lions offensive tackle Jason Jiminez in the Stampeders regular-season finale. The block came on the last play of the first half.
Jiminez was initially hit with a one-game suspension by the CFL, but he appealed, and the suspension was ultimately lifted.
Gargiulo, a 23-year-old from Dartmouth University, had five sacks before the injury. After rehabbing the injury, Gargiulo was placed on the practice roster to see if he could resume playing with the Stampeders.
