For the third time in 10 months, the CFL has fined Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager Eric Tillman.
The league announced yesterday it was fining Tillman $2,500 for comments made July 21 to a Regina radio station regarding the league's salary management system. Tillman criticized how the salaries of injured players count against the $4.2-million spending limit.
"Holding us accountable for injuries is as ridiculous as asking Saskatchewan farmers to be responsible or accountable for the rain," Tillman told News Talk 980 Regina. "They can't control when it rains."
Again this season, injuries have hit the 'Riders hard. The club will play the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday minus several key players, including quarterback Darian Durant, fullback Chris Szarka and slotback Andy Fantuz.
Tillman was fined twice last fall for a total of $3,500, for remarks that CFL commissioner Mark Cohon deemed disparaging to the league and to the B.C. Lions.
