I had been waiting for months for the John Edwards scandal to break.
In fact, when rumours surfaced last year in the tabloids and on some political blogs that the former senator and candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination had an extramarital affair in 2006, and may even have fathered a "love child," I started a file in which the phrase "scumbag extraordinaire" was featured prominently.
