ARCHERY

Men's team — Crispin Duenas and John David Burnes of Toronto and Jay Lyon, Winnipeg, lost to Italy in the round of 16, 219-217.

BADMINTON

Women's singles — Anna Rice of North Vancouver, B.C., lost 21-7, 21-12 to Lu Lan, China, in the round of 16.

CANOE-KAYAK

Men's K-1 Slalom — David Ford of Edmonton placed 13th with a combined time of 174.84 seconds, qualifying for the next round.

Men's C-1 Slalom — James Cartwright, Ottawa, placed 13th with a combined time of 184.63 seconds, one place short of qualifying for the next round.

EQUESTRIAN

Eventing (ranking after Cross Country) — Kyle Carter of Calgary, placed 32nd with a time of 81.90 seconds; Sandra Donnelly, Calgary, was 34th (84.20); Selena O'Hanlon, Elgin, Ont., was 51st (120.90); Mike Winter, Toronto, was 53rd (125.70), and Samantha Taylor, Richmond, B.C., was 60th (180.30). In the team competition, Canada stands ninth with a score of 287.00.

FENCING

Women's Individual Foil — Jujie Luan, Edmonton, lost to Aida Mohamed, Hungary, 15-7 in the round of 32 after defeating Ines Boubakri, Tunisia, 13-9 in the round of 64.

JUDO

Men's under 73kg — Nicholas Tritton of Perth, Ont., lost by Yuko to Joao Pina, Portugal, in the round of 32.

ROWING

Men's eight with coxswain — Canada (Kevin Light, Sidney, B.C.; Ben Rutledge, Cranbrook, B.C.; Andrew Byrnes, Toronto; Jake Wetzel, Saskatoon; Malcolm Howard, Victoria; Dominic Seiterle, Victoria; Adam Kreek, London, Ont.; Kyle Hamilton, Richmond, B.C.; Brian Price, Belleville, Ont.) qualified for the final after winning its preliminary round heat with a time of five minutes 27.69 seconds.

Women's eight with coxswain — Canada (Heather Mandoli, Kelowna, B.C.; Andreanne Morin, Montreal; Sarah Bonikowsky, Orangeville, Ont.; Ashley Brzozowicz, Toronto; Romina Stefancic, Victoria; Buffy Williams, St. Catharines, Ont.; Darcy Marquardt, Richmond, B.C.; Jane Rumball, Fredericton; Lesley Thompson-Willie, London, Ont.) was relegated to the repechage after finishing third in its prelimiary round heat with a time of 6:12.68.

Men's Finn - Heavyweight Dinghy — Christopher Cook, Toronto, is ranked fourth through six races after placing 23rd in the fifth race and fifth in the sixth.

Men's 49er - Skiff — Canada (Gordon Cook, Toronto; Ben Remocker, Vancouver) is ranked 12th through six races after placing 10th in the fourth race, seventh in the fifth and sixth in the sixth.

Men's RS:X - Windsurfer — Zac Plavsic, Vancouver is ranked 24th througgh two races after placing 23rd in the first race and 25th in the second.

Men's 470 - Two Person Dinghy — Canada (Stephane Locas, St-Eustache, Que.; Oliver Bone, Montreal) is ranked 28th through two races after placing 25th in the first race and 26th in the second.

Women's Yngling - Keelboat — Canada (Jennifer Provan, Toronto; Martha Henderson, Toronto; Katie Abbott, Sarnia, Ont.) is ranked 12th through six races afteer placing ninth in the fifth race and 12th in the sixth.

Women's RS:X - Windsurfer — Nikola Girke, West Vancouver, B.C., is ranked 13th through two races after placing 11th in the first race and 15th in the second.

SHOOTING

Women's trap (75 targets) — Susan Nattrass of Edmonton placed 11th with a score of 63, failing to qualify for the final.

SWIMMING

Men's 4x100 freestyle — Canada (Brent Hayden, Mission, B.C.; Joel Greenshields, Airdrie, Alta.; Colin Russell, Barrie, Ont.; and Rick Say, Salmon Arm, B.C.), placed sixth in the final with a time of three minutes 12.26 seconds.

Men's 200 freestyle — Colin Russell of Barrie, Ont., failed to qualify for the final after placing seventh in his semifinal heat with a time of 1:48.13.ƒo

Men's 200 butterfly — Adam Sioui, Trenton, Ont., failed to qualify for the semifinals, finishing 25th with a time of 1:57.45.ƒo

Women's 100 backstroke — Julia Wilkinson of Stratford, Ont., placed sixth in her semi-final heat with a time of 1:00.60, failing to qualify for the final.

Women's 100 breaststroke — Jillian Tyler, Calgary, and Annamay Pierse, Edmonton, both placed sixth in their respective semifinal heats with times of 1:09.00 and 1:08.27, respectively. Neither advanced to the final.

Women's 200 freestyle — Stephanie Horner, Beaconsfield, Que., finished 17th with a time of 1:58.35, while Genevieve Saumur, Montreal, placed 25th (2:00.49). Both failed to advance.

Women's 200 individiual medley — Julia Wilkinson, Stratford, Ont., finished 13th with a time of 2:12.56 to qualify for the semifinals. Erica Morningstar, Calgary, failed to qualify after finishing 19th (2:14.11).

TENNIS

Men's singles — Frank Dancevic, Niagra Falls, Ont., lost to Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round.

WEIGHTLIFTING

Men's 62kg — Jasvir Singh of Burnaby, B.C., placed 12th after lifting a total of 266 kilograms.
