Quebec to refurbish nuclear reactor

BECANCOUR, Que. — Quebec will retain its toehold in Canada's nuclear industry by going ahead with a major retrofit of its lone nuclear power plant. Hydro-Québec announced Tuesday it will spend $1.9-billion to overhaul the aging Gentilly-2 plant near Trois-Rivières. It is hoped the extensive renovations will extend the power plant's life span to 2040.
