GM earmarks $500-million for new small car

DETROIT — — General Motors Corp. said Thursday it will invest more than $500-million (U.S.) in the United States to build its new compact car, the Chevrolet Cruze. The car, which will be built at GM's Lordstown, Ohio, plant, underscores GM's efforts to revamp its vehicle lineup in response to tumbling demand for once-popular gas-thirsty trucks and SUVs in the wake of high fuel prices.
