Kevin Ripley from Canada writes: From the specs, the Bold is a better BERRY, but will corporate buyers upgrade or will it go the way of Microsoft Vista? Obviously RIM is putting the bold front saying it's the latest Berry is a corporate gadget, but if it were only that, why put camera, video and all the multimedia wizzardly?
Think what you may, I think they called it the BOLD indicating that they are trying to fight both fronts, the corporate (their mainstay) as well as the iPhone crowd. If my last assumption is correct, they have failed in marketing this device considering many are tide to 3 year contracts in this nation.
The candy crowd will choke at $400 price point and considering the lastest Berry is flimsy material wise, who wants to have to replace the thing at that price?- Posted 21/08/08 at 12:02 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Cavan Kelly from Toronto, writes: Three stores that I have visited this morning do not have the Bold. The flagship store at 333 Bloor St. (on the campus where the press conference was apparently held this morning) has a recording stating that they have not received the product and don't know when they will get it. Rogers Wireless customer service told me they had 'hoped' to have the Blackberry Bold today but that it has been delayed.
John Boynton, senior vice president of Rogers Wireless, must have known this when he spoke this morning but obviously neglected to mention it. Perhaps there were not the type of queues that there were for the iPhone, but I was the 4th person looking for the Bold at the Rogers store on Kennedy Rd. south of Ellesmere - the 5th came in while I was there before 10 this morning. I wasn't first at Scarborough Town Centre a few minutes later and I don't think they opened until 10.
So, Rogers, where IS the phone?- Posted 21/08/08 at 12:22 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Bill Rowley from Toronto, Canada writes: As a usually proud Canadian, I simply cannot believe how Rogers & RIM could 'launch' a product, with great fanfare and not have any devices in stock at any stores (even in GTA). From a business point of view, I am not very proud of either of these Canadian companies. They must look pretty foolish to the rest of the business world. Good thing their were no lineups for the BOLD! Let's hope they do better next time. Image if this happened with the iPone!

Nathan Cool from Vancouver, Canada writes: I was pretty excited about getting my hands on a Bold, but the price is outrageous for what you get. The only upgrade from the 8800 model is 3G. Why would I lock myself in for THREE years and shell out $400 for that?
In the next three years there will be tonnes of MUCH MUCH better handsets coming out and I'd be stuck with this under-whelming brick.
This thing is going to tank.- Posted 21/08/08 at 2:04 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

K S from 905 land, Canada writes: Maybe the reason the Bold isn’t available anywhere right now is that Rogers wants to give anyone who would like to buy this phone as little time as possible to take advantage of their time limited offer on the 6 GB data plan.

Samantha Lowe from Toronto, Canada writes: I have called many stores and been to 3, including the 'Flagship' store. All of the retail staff were dazed, confused and upset. One store was picking up the phone and hanging up so they didn't have to deal with the calls.
It was all a surprise to them. They don't know when they will receive product.
I thought a product launch, would like, you know, include product. Maybe I need to take a class in marketing or something.
If I were RIM, I would lobby to get other carriers to build 3G networks in Canada. It seems that Rogers is more interested in the consumer market segment than the business one.

Kevin Ripley from Canada writes: In 2 years there will be other GSM competitors and better phones if I might add. Don't get yourself locked in a 3 year contract.
Perhaps there aren't any because RIM is trying to force Rogers to lower its price or change their contract. Either way I am tuned off with the way Rogers run the show in Canada.- Posted 21/08/08 at 3:52 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Gregory Colford from Toronto, Canada writes: I have been told this phone would be in the stores four weeks ago. It is simply unbelieveable how poorly this 'launch' was managed. It is 4:00 pm and 'launch day' and my local Rogers is told it won't be getting the phone until tomorrow. Really sloppy, but, sadly, not a surprise.

K McIntyre from Oshawa, Canada writes: Nathan Cool wrote: "The only upgrade from the 8800 model is 3G."
The Bold has WiFi, GPS, a camera (with video recording), and a faster processor. All of those are upgrades from the 8800. There is also supposedly a revamped browser.
The keyboard also looks better. The 'frets' on the Bold put some space in between the keys; the cramped layout was my main complaint with my 8800.- Posted 21/08/08 at 4:58 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Nathan Cool from Vancouver, Canada writes: a 2 MP camera is the same as no camera. It's useless.
The 8800 has a GPS and wifi is pointless because finding free wifi is almost impossible nowadays. I have a Nokia N95 and the wifi feature is useless.
Unless you're tethering your Bold for hispeed internet access for your laptop, the Bold adds no value. Certainly not at that price.- Posted 21/08/08 at 5:47 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
