From Wednesday's Globe and Mail

This is the third year in a row he's signed a one-year deal, largely as a favour to the Avalanche ...Read the full article

The NHL wouldn't have the same level of class without you...

Thanks also for your MVP role in Canada's 2002 Olympic Gold Medal Win.

    Cheers
  2. Maxwell Maxwell from Canada writes: Eric, methinks you hath spent too much time on the golf course and on the BBQ circuit this summer. Time to shake off the rust, sharpen your pencil and gear up for camp. ;-)

Implying Sakic scored only 40 points in 44 games, but "rebounded" with 10 points in 10 playoff games?! Wah? I would deem both stats excellent. Wonder how many others got more points in just 44 games? Or if you projected that out over an 80 game season. I'm guessing Sakic would still be in the mix.
  3. Neil No more last name from Canada writes: R Miller has a man crush on Joe Sakic

    His preference is "manbigious"

I don't even know if I spelled that right

    Another Go for Burnaby Joe
  4. Neil No more last name from Canada writes: Sakic's career playoff stats are staggering, in particular the 2 years the Avs won the Cup.

    Unbelievable, c'est sur
  5. Simon Dimuantes from Toronto, writes: Joe Sakic is just pure class...and so incredibly consistent over many years. His 100 points in 2006-2007 made him the second oldest 100-point scorer in NHL history, behind only Gordie Howe in 1968-1969. That was a phenomenal achievement. Plus, his value to the organization is huge in terms of his impact on younger players like Paul Stastny...I mean, he played with Stastny's DAD in Quebec. That's just so cool. Now if only #13 on the Maple Leafs could make his mind up...
  6. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Neil No more last name from Canada:

He's no Matts Sundin, of course...

But at least, he wins his Olympic Gold Medals for this country...

As I keep saying, Joe Sakic is the Paul Henderson of the modern generation with the goal to win the Olympic Hockey Gold for Canada... The only difference is that Sakic as opposed to Henderson never wore the Maple Leaf that mattered to people like you.

Ahhh..... Canada ..... 141 years of bashing our own sports heros and counting !

Let's have another batch of stories about Brett Favre, shall we ?

    Cheers

    No, please no more.

I'm in agreement, I don't know where you get the idea he doesn't matter to "people like me" because he never wore the Maple Leaf...as I said on another section - first ballot HoF, no question.

and I am certainly proud of his MVP tournament in 2002.

No beefs with Joe believe me.

Just wanted to pick on you.

Sakic is the man. I'll admit it here - better player than Mats.

For God's sake tell me before I go even more nuts--
What in hell does that eastern word (or term) BASHING mean??
For example: Leafs bashing, or Toronto bashing, Sens bashing etc?

I'm so dumb Miller, I slept through the 6.1 Earthquake last night too.
  9. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Hey Western Bookend:

Opps, I'm catching the C of the U lingo... ignore my "bashing" comments.

That ejeet, Captain Ontario, made me go all Don Cherry like with his inflammatory comments directed Sakic's way last night.

I have complete respect for Joe Sakic and the fact that he led Canada to the Gold Medal in Salt Lake City...

It doesn't make me a bad person.

I think that we are all in agreement that the G&M should feature Canadian sports heros from all over the country and less stories about Brett Favre.

    Cheer
  10. Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Meanwhile, Meszaros has signed an offer sheet for $5M. Not good news for the Sens. Anybody have any ideas who the mystery team might be?
  11. Allan Martel from Canada writes: Dave the Rave

The team is apparently the Bolts but they have a problem:

If they offer $5 million or more annually, compensation must be a first, second and third round draft pick. They don't have 'em anymore since they acquired the rights to Malone.

Sens have offered $3.5 million and might be willing to match any Bolts offer - but I consider this unlikely as there is now bad chemistry between the Sens and (at least) the Mazaros negotiating team.

Alternately, the Bolts could trade for the required draft picks, something they might need to do to fit within cap space anyhow.

Meanwhile Ottawa will likely sit tight waiting to see what the Blackhawks and others in cap space difficulties will put on the block over the next few days or weeks.
  12. Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Mr. Martel, latest is the Bolts have re-acquired the necessary draft pick. This according to Hockeybuzz. Tampa sounds like a likely suitor for Meszaros. They certainly have the need, the assets to trade, and the ownership who would make such a move.
