Fixed income guru Hank Cunningham is taking a brief break from the Street, retiring Monday from Blackmont Capital and preparing for the next stage in a four-decade career in bond markets.
Mr. Cunningham stepped down as head of Blackmont's fixed income desk after five years at the helm, He leaves at a time when the dealer is focusing on reining in costs. Jamie Price takes over the bond desk at Blackmont, which is owned by mutual fund manager CI Financial.
Mr. Cunningham's short term plans include biking and updating his personal finance-focused website and 2006 book, “In Your Best Interest: The Ultimate Guide to the Canadian Bond Market.” Later this fall, he plans to look at opportunities to return to a dealer or fund manager.
In a career that has taken in both sides of the business, Mr. Cunningham has run bond funds for Investors Group, and been on the bond desk at First Marathon, Nesbitt Thomson and Wood Gundy.
