Gross takes charge into no-man's land

Stephen Harper could scarcely have scripted it any better.Almost coincident with the expected calling of a general election - likely to be in some measure a referendum on Canada's war effort in Afghanistan - the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival kicks off its annual festivities tomorrow with Passchendaele, a film that brings the heroic slaughter of 5,000 Canadians on the storied First World War battlefield at Ypres, Belgium, in 1917 to the big screen.
