ST. PAUL, MINN. — When John McCain scanned Republican delegates last night, he saw the affluent, the elderly and the white, people very much like himself. Less than 2 per cent of the Republican delegates were black, compared with 12 per cent of the population, and only 2 per cent were Hispanic, compared with 15 per cent of the population. Fewer than half were women.
